FEATURES

Swarmlings: Follow the position of your mouse and are used to push and protect the queen. Unite them to create one big blob, that is able to feast on smaller enemies and grow in size.

Queen: Slowly moves towards the hive automatically, but cannot dodge objectives. Protect the queen and feed it yellow drops to regain lost mass after taking damage.

Enemies: White swarmlings are the most common ones and constantly spawn on the map. They can also be found captured in bubbles. They try to eat your own swarm but are also a nice snack to increase your own size. Besides that, the enemies and challenges range from target seeking triangles, to bouncing squares, spikey obstacles and traps.

EXPERIMENT H...

...is a minimalistic 2D game that lets you take control over a swarm and guide the queen to its hive. Everything that counts is the survival of the queen.

The theme for this 3 week project was "Hive". In Experiment H, all swarmlings follow a higher mind, your input, and are used to protect the queen from various enemy types.

DESIGN & GAMEPLAY

I wanted to create a visually abstract game, that is based on simple geometric shapes, combined with a more organic looking environment.

The focus here lies on the individual behaviour of the enemies and obstacles the player has to face. The player is challenged to switch between the two forms the swarm can take on and constantly move forward. The longer you rest, the more enemies the player will have to face.
